Queensland accommodation statistics

As more and more tourists, both local and international visit Queensland every year, the state ensures that it meets the growing demand for accommodation.

A recent research released by Tourism Queensland revealed that for the year ended June 2013, the Australian hotel and resort sector remained stable. Queensland, which registered 182 establishments, which include hotels and resort, private hotels, motels, guest houses, and serviced apartments, saw an increase of 1.7% compared to the same period in 2012. The state had 7,606,841 available rooms for tourists, which was an increase of just .8% compared previous year.

On the demand side, 66.8% of the Queensland’s accommodation was occupied on the period in question. The number of room nights occupied was 5,080,300 which was .4% lower compared to last year. Meanwhile, room occupancy was down by 0.8%.

Gold Coast Accommodation statistics

From June 2012 to June 2013, the number of Gold Coast accommodation establishments offering accommodation with 15 or more units stayed at 27. However, it registered a 3.1% increase of room nights available to 2,390,336. The region saw a 2.6% increase in demand and a total of 1,650,959 rooms were occupied on the period in question. However, occupancy rate dropped by 0.3% to 69.1%.
