Australia’s holiday capital is gearing up for summer

Wow! Southeast Queensland has already had its hottest September on record and early spring is rapidly turning into early summer. Here on the Goldie, we are enjoying beautiful warm days—mostly in the mid to high twenties; the beaches are already packed and the surf lifesavers have resumed their beach patrols. Of an evening, holidaymakers are taking advantage of the balmy weather to dine al fresco at their favourite restaurants. What a contrast this is from the chilly days still being recorded in the southern part of the country!

The recent Labour Day long weekend showed the Gold Coast at its finest as visitors and locals alike enjoyed their holiday break. From the beaches to the theme parks to the restaurants—every place up and down the Coast was ready to enjoy some quality vacation time.

The Labour Day weekend really marks the start of the holiday season here—though many believe that life on the Gold Coast is one perpetual holiday. And there are plenty of events scheduled for coming weeks beginning with the Gold Coast Rugby Sevens at Skilled Park in Robina over the weekend of 12–13 October. The following weekend, the centre of action shifts to the southern part of the Gold Coast with the Coolangatta Gold Festival incorporating the famous Coolangatta Gold Ironman Race.

Then on 25–27 October, hot from Bathurst, we see the return of the V8 supercars for the Amor All Gold Coast 600. That not-to-be-missed event promises to be one non-stop party.

So if you have not yet booked your ‘great escape’ to the Coast and are looking for some holiday ideas to build around, why not come and experience one or more of these fine events?
