Traditionally, the V8 Supercars Gold Coast 600 is the first big event of the holiday season and this year, the event promises to be bigger and better than ever.
This year, the event is scheduled for the weekend of October 24−26. The Gold Coast 600 is becoming a ‘must-see’ on the calendar of all racing enthusiasts as world-class drivers race their cars through one of the world’s toughest street circuits over three days of action-packed racing.
The event is held in the Macintosh Island parkland area north of the main Surfers Paradise tourist precinct and within easy walking distance from the major hotels and resorts of Surfers Paradise. Tickets to the event can be obtained online through Ticketek. Tickets purchased at the gate on the day will be more expensive so if you are planning a visit it is best to buy a pre-purchased ticket before you arrive. Another advantage of the pre-purchased ticket is access to free public transport on services to and from the event, including the new Gold Coast light rail, so that you can readily take part in the biggest party on the Gold Coast.
Ticket prices vary depending on your trackside location and events that you want to attend. Concession price are available to seniors, pensioners, disabled and full time students aged between 13–17. Prices vary from $30 for an adult trackside ticket to $75 for a fan stand seat. This year there will be an additional 770 grandstand seats around the track and a completely refurbished corporate structure on the pit strait with enclosed air-conditioned suites.
Castrol EDGE has been named as the new naming rights sponsor and has promised that it will make the Castrol EDGE Gold Coast 600, Queensland’s largest sporting and entertainment event and one of the top events in Australia.
In announcing the new sponsorship arrangements, it was revealed that this year the entire race precinct will become an entertainment hub amidst the parkland. Gold Coast entertainment king Billy Cross will add his own touch with an exclusive over-18s Las Vegas style day club — to be known as ‘Club 600’ — on the MacIntosh Island Park, complete with a beach stage and all-day, world class DJs and celebrities entertaining the crowds. Rumour has it that Shane Warne’s new love, DJ Emily Scott has been booked to entertain the crowds in the over-18s DJ zone in the heart of the race precinct.
Live band concerts are also planned for the precinct.Australia’s premier hip hop band the Hilltop Hoods will feature in a Saturday evening performance to be included in the price of the event ticket. The multiple Aria Award winners will play the Gold Coast event for the first time, performing hits as well as new songs from the soon to be released album, ‘Walking Under Stars’.
Also returning for a night of high-octane fun are Australia’s biggest and most powerful drag racing machines for a two-hour show on Friday evening. Since these events are being held within the park, your ticket to the motor races will get you admission to all the entertainment.
The popular but controversial drag-racing contest will also return this year to add to the adrenalin rush.
