Aside from looking for affordable apartments by the beach, another way for families to stay in the Gold Coast on a budget is to rent out a campervan and camp out at a tourist park. While the Gold Coast is best known for its pristine beaches and booming nightlife, it also has twenty nine national parks, an amazing hinterland, and wildlife that no one should leave without seeing.

The best thing about camping out is that you also get to engage in watersports like fishing and boating. The Jacobs Well Tourist Park is an excellent site to pitch your tent on (or park your caravan in) if your family enjoys these things. The property also has barbecue facilities, a place where you can feed their resident lorikeets, and best of all, while it sits on the remote Moreton Bay, it’s only a 15 minute drive from the upbeat Gold Coast party zone at Surfers Paradise.

Right across the Marina Mirage and the Sea World is the Broadwater Caravan which is probably the best waterfront campervan site in the Gold Coast. While it’s less austere than the Jacobs Well Tourist Park, it is only a short walk away from the commercial area of the Gold Coast. You also have the liberty to choose between powered campervan sites, unpowered sites, ensuite sites and villas (with 2 or 3 bedrooms). The prices are suitable for backpackers and the accommodation, big enough for med-sized families.

If you really want to be at the center of it all but you’re trying to work with a steep budget, the Main Beach Caravan and Camping Park may just be the right fit for you. It’s just two minutes away (by car) from the party area of Surfers Paradise, and just right across an excellent beach for surfing. This is probably one of the more upscale camper sites in the Gold Coast as it offers the same amenities most resorts would offer, including a fresh water pool. The camping park is certainly a convenient base if you’re planning to explore the whole of Gold Coast.

Just across the Miami Bushlands Reserve is yet another campsite which attracts droves of travelers who would want the ultimate caravan camping experience. The Ocean Beach Caravan and Camping Park has an advantage because its location is intimate enough, yet it’s also accessible to the main commercial areas of the Gold Coast.

While it may not be a beachfront property, surfers just need to cross the road to get to the beach and catch the best waves. Should guests want to go to the Surfers Paradise for the bars and the theme parks, the area is also accessible.
